Why Should You Pay For Web Hosting?

A wise man once said that all good things in life are free. It is pretty obvious this was before the world of web hosting, because in this world all things free are usually not that great. If I took a pole of everyone in the “business” of web mastering ninety-five percent of us though probably started on one of those free web hosting services provided out there. We all know there names, so there’s no need to list them. I thought for those out there who aren’t paying for their hosting though I would sit down and compare the two side-by-side so that we can really see who ends up on top.

First lets look at web hosting support. In one corner you have the free online services. The word “support” to these folks means providing you with three or four pages of help pages and if it’s not listed there it’s your fault. Is that the way the world of web hosting should work? I think not. On the paid web hosting side we have real support. Instead of only being given a handful of help pages, you are given dozens of them. You’re also given real live support, a help desk, and people to talk to via an online messenger so you can talk to somebody one-on-one. To tell you the truth I never knew there was such a thing as web hosting support when I was starting out on those free services.

Next we have physical space on a web hosting server. With a free online service, you’re given a smaller account on the server. You’re also over-stuffed with millions of other folks on the same server as well. Now lets take a look at the paid hosting side of things. Instead of being overstuffed, you’re put on a larger server with less people on it. You also get the hosting space per your account that you pay for. If you need more space or bandwidth, then all you need to do is upgrade to the next biggest plan.

Side-by-side there isn’t one place that free web hosting compares with paid web hosting. E-mail, services, spaces and support paid hosting wins hands down. So are all good things in life free? Not in the web hosting world, that’s for sure.
