This must not be an update. This is a whole new version hence the update section in Help says there is nothing new.
My thunderbird could be updated through the "check for..." button.
Are you sure you are not running the new version already, using a beta or such? If so, then it might not say there is a new version out.

No I was running the version just before the new one. And my update in the help section said there was none. And I do not run any type of beta software. To risky.

I agree. I was just checking since it worked updating this way for me on two computers.
