Not sure...I had Thunderbird 2 Release Candidate 1, and when I asked it to check for updates, it found none.

When they were about to upgrade Firefox to version 2, I read that they will not upgrade it through the auto update. The auto update are only for x.1, x.2, x.3 and so on.

Perhaps it´s the same for Thunderbird as well.
