TCH-Thomas
Soon, Joomla.org plans to release version 1.7. They have now published some important things to know about the 1.7 release and the future for various releases. Joomla 1.7 GA (general availability) is due to be released on 19 July 2011 10 August - Joomla 1.6 reaches end of life and is no longer supported January 2012 - Next version of Joomla is released April 2012 - Joomla 1.5 reaches end of life This basically means that... After 10 august 2011, you can not expect support from them regarding version 1.6 After March 2012, you can not expect support from them regarding version 1.5 My thoughts... In my world, this a weird way of seeing things, since they stop support for a newer product before an old one. But it´s their decision. What you need to do... Before you plan to upgrade to version 1.7, you should upgrade any existing joomla installation to version 1.6.5. This is because they say that upgrading from Joomla 1.6.5 to Joomla 1.7 will be relatively easy. If your exisiting joomla installation is prior to 1.6.5, the upgrade will be more difficult to do, especially if you are still using version 1.5. So to help yourself in your life with joomla, upgrade to 1.6.5 now if you haven´t already done it.
