I have a script that needs this...

Your PHP configuration file called "php.ini" might not be
configured correctly to allow spawning of external
applications via the PHP function exec().

Is this enabled on the servers or am I going to have to find another method?

I checked with the support staff and php exec() is disabled on the servers.

It would be faster to ask questions of this nature on the help desk.

What is it you are trying to do, there may be other ways to do it in PHP?
